Marie Hart

Ms. Marie Hart has been with the District of Columbia Office of the Inspector General (OIG) since February 2015. Before being appointed Principal Deputy Inspector General, Ms. Hart was the Chief of Staff. As the Principal Deputy Inspector General, Ms. Hart led the agency's restructuring to foster an Agency-wide environment of professional development, achievement, and continuous improvement to ensure the OIG operations best support the District government, its Agencies, and its citizens.
 
Prior to joining the D.C. OIG, Ms. Hart served as the Assistant Inspector General for Special Inquiries and the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for the Hotline Program at Naval Sea Systems Command within the Department of the Navy. As such, Ms. Hart was responsible for conducting administrative investigations into allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement against senior management officials.  
 
A 26-year Navy veteran, Ms. Hart was stationed in various commands worldwide, including an amphibious assault ship and two aircraft carriers. During her enlistment, she was selected to the Legalmen (paralegal) program and served with the Office of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Ms. Hart was commissioned as a Naval Officer under the Limited Duty Officer program and served as the Legal Officer and Administrative Officer for various commands. She was responsible for leading, mentoring, and directing the efforts of both Sailors and civilian employees. Ms. Hart retired from the Navy and began her career as a civil service employee with the Federal Government.
 
Ms. Hart earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Saint Leo and a Master's in Public Administration from Troy University.
